It’s Easter weekend and I’ve had my first chance of the year to get along to Yoker for some shinty. The game on 15th April was a Celtic Society Cup quarter Final tie between Glasgow Mid Argyll and Glenorchy.

Mid Argyll, with their Premier Division experience, proved too strong for their Division One opponents and eased to a win by 8-0.

Glasgow Mid Argyll v Ballachulish
Both the Glasgow Mid Argyll men’s teams were in action in Yoker on 11th June.

First to play were the first team who faced fellow National Division team Ballachulish in the first round of the Macaulay Cup. Balla have been struggling in the league this year and there was no change in fortunes as the home team eased to an 8-0 win.

The second game had the GMA second team facing a vist from the team representing the English Shinty Association for a quarter final tie in the Bulloch Cup. This game was a little more competitive but the Glasgow team finished well on top and took the win by 6-1.

Glasgow Mid Argyll v Dunadd ladies
I made it along to a Camanachd Association’s Division 2 South Ladies game on Sunday 27th March. This was highly entertaining, despite a vicious hail storm.
The win went to the Glasgow Mid Argyll team (their second team, the firsts play in Division 1) by 3 goals to 1.

Glasgow Mid Argyll v InverarayI took the opportunity to cover this game for SPN on 11th July. It was a Camanachd Cup quarter-final with the incentive of a televised game in the next round for the winners.

Inveraray have been struggling in the Premiership this season while Mid Argyll are doing well in the National Division and chasing promotion, so we expected a close game. However, Inveraray started the game with two early goals and set a challenge that Glasgow couldn’t match. The score was 2-1 at half time but two more scores by the visitors in the second half sealed the win and the semi-final place.

Mid Argyll will be hoping for better fortune next Saturday as they face Beauly in the Baillimore Cup Final.

My first chance to see a bit of shinty this year on May 17th, and the Celtic Society Cup has already reached the semi-final stage.

Neither team has set the heather on fire in the league so far this season, but the Premier Division side Kyles proved to be the stronger team and ran out a comfortable 3-0 winners. They will now face Inveraray in the final at Old Anniesland on 28th June

My first chance to see some shinty this season, I made it over to Yoker for a double header at Glasgow Mid Argyll.

The first game featGMA v Kilmoryured the GMA second team playing Col Glen in a South Division 2, the fixture having been switched from Glendaruel. The GMA team features a number of youngsters and has been struggling in the league so far. In the first half GMA scored early, only for Col Glen to come back and lead 2-1. The second half belonged to the visitors as they piled on the pressure and finished with a 7-1 win.

GMA’s first team game was a first round tie in the AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup, with Kilmory providing the opposition. GMA have been in dominant league form in South Division 1 so far this season and showed why here, racing to a four goal lead early on and winning in the end by 9-0.
