The Roughnecks are having a dominant season in NFC 2 North division. They came to Wishaw to face the Blackhawks on 15th July with the division title already clinched and were looking to maintain their perfect 6-0 record to maximise their advantage come play-off time.

The first half was close. The score was tied at one and two touchdowns each before Aberdeen went off at halftime with a 21-14 lead. Clyde Valley didn’t manage to score in the second half so the game was lost. They did restrict the Roughnecks to one very lucky touchdown but there was a safety and a field goal too and the lead stretched to 33-14 by the final whistle.

Scotland men hosted the USA team for a three game series at Glasgow Green from 8 to 11th July.
Game 1 on Sunday saw the teams exchange early goals before Scotland got on top in the second half and went on to win by 3-1.
On Monday evening the game was a sort of mirror image. There was a goal to each side early on but then it was the Americans who went on to win by 3-1.
The deciding game of the series on Wednesday failed to decide it. Scotland had a very early lead but the USA equalised after half time and the game, and the series, played out at 1-1.

The Pirates last home game of the season, and pretty much their last opportunity to escape demotion from the BAFA Premier Division, was at GHA on 8th July as they hosted the Nighthawks.  The visitors are also having a bad season, but at least they already had one win under their belt.
The game began as a close contest as the teams exchanged opening touchdowns. As the game went on however East Kilbride couldn’t match Merseyside’s big play abilities and the win went south on a 25-12 scoreline.

An afternoon of Roller Derby on Saturday 16th as Mean City hosted a double header at the Arc at Caledonian Uni against teams for the east.
Firstly, the MC women’s team were big winners as they saw off the New Town Roller Girls. The second game was much closer, the opposition more experienced and definitely much more physical, but the Mean City mixed team came out on top of Fear & Lothian.

While the Pirates senior side in struggling this season a bright spot is provided by the under 19 team who are on yet another unbeaten run. Last season the only game they lost was the national final, and that by only 46-42 in an outstanding game against London Blitz.
This season they’re unbeaten again and they showed their class on 17th June with a 58-8 win against Merseyside Nighthawks at GHA.

Scotland women are playing a three game series against the World Cup bound Italians at Glasgow Green from 12 to 15th June.

In game one on Tuesday night Italy opened the scoring just after half time. There was a strong fightback however and Scotland fought through to win 2-1.
Game two on Thursday lunchtime was blown open in the second quarter by a burst of three goals in eight minutes for the Italians. Once again, Scotland fought back in the second half but this time they could only bring the score back to 3-2.
Scotland finally got off to a good start in the final game on Friday night. However, after their early goal they fell behind by 2-1 and it took a late equaliser to save the game. This left the series tied and the shoot-out was played to decide the winner, and that went Scotland’s way.
