I lasted a game and a half in constant rain at Auchenhowie on 13th October.

First there was Western Wildcats women v Dundee Wanderers, a top of Division 1 clash where the Western girls took a 3-1 win and top place in the table.
The second game wasn’t as close. Wildcats men had a 4-0 lead at half time over the bottom side in the division. I headed off at that point to get dry while the game went to a 10-0 scoreline.

17. March 2018 · Comments Off on Scottish Hockey Schools Cup Finals · Categories: Hockey - Men, Hockey - Women, Photo Set

The 2018 Scottish Hockey Schools Finals were played at Glasgow Green on the afternoon and evening of 16th March. It was a bitterly cold day, but the players shrugged that off and put on a great show of hockey over no less than twelve matches. Personally I was frozen and struggling.

The most successful school of the day was Stewart’s Melville College who’s boys did the double, winning both the Open Cup and the S3 Cup. The enthusiastic Dollar Academy girls were winners of their Open Cup while the High School of Glasgow edged out George Watsons in the S3 Girls Cup. For a full report on the action visit the Scottish Hockey website.

I have photos from seven games, including all six from the main pitch, and all twelve presentation ceremonies. Full coverage of the Pitch 2 games was provided by Mark Pugh and photos from those games are on his website.
My photos are as follows:

Scotland under 16 boys started a busy period with three games against a UK Lions squad in Glasgow over the February 16-18 weekend.

After the first game at Titwood finished 2-2 (I wasn’t there) the second game at Glasgow Green say the Lions holding a 3-1 lead until Scotland came back with two very late goals to snatch a draw. A winner finally emerged from the Sunday game as Scotland scored two early goals and built on the lead to finish with a 5-2 result.

We had a long day at Bells Sports Centre on 3rd February as nine games were played to complete the club indoor season.
The champions were Inverleith men, who beat Kelburne, and Clydesdale Western women who overcame last year’s winners Dundee Wanderers. Grove Menzieshill II men needed a shoot-out to beat Dunfermline Carnegie to the Division 2 title.
Other successes on the day went to Grange Ladies and Western Wildcats men who secured promotion to Division 1 for next season, while FMGM Monarchs won promotion to men’s Division 2. Also, Grove Menzieshill women and Dundee Wanderers men took third places in their Division 1s.

The final round of games in Scottish league Division 1 and the play off matches were played at Bells Sports Centre on 27th January.
The three games which mattered most all had exciting finishes. After fighting back to finish at 4-4, Edinburgh University lost to Hillhead in a shoot out and are relegated for next season. Hillhead need to win another game next week to preserve their Division 1 status.
The two semi-finals for next weeks Grand Final were both fought to the last second. A late winner saw Inverleith beat Dundee Wanderers 5-4 in the first game. Grove Menzieshill then lost out on their habitual place in the final when Kelburne produced a dominant second half performance and won by 6-5 .

Grove Menzieshill men were back in the Glasgow area for the second Saturday running when they played Hillhead at Old Anniesland on 11 November.

Hillhead have been recovering after a poor start to their season but this was a day where the visitors were just too strong for them. It was a hard fought game but the men from Dundee came out with a 2-1 win.

The result leaves Menzieshill level on points with second placed Kelburne in the table. three points behind Grange. Hillhead stay in 7th place.
