After the single point win for the Wolves in this season’s first meeting between these two teams there was plenty anticipation for the return fixture which was played at Meggetland on 10th June.
The crowd weren’t disappointed as the Pirates turned a first quarter 7-0 defecit into a 13-7 half time lead. This lead was stretched by a Pirates defensive touchdown early in the third, but from there Edinburgh got their offence into gear and three TDs saw them finish with a lead of 29-25.

The win has the Wolves at 3&2 for the season while East Kilbride are stuck at the bottom of the division with five defeats.

After two wins on the road the Wolves first home game of the Premier Division season was at Meggetland on 20th May against the newly promoted Titans.

Both teams have had a good start to the season and there wasn’t much to separate them. There were lead changes as each side scored two touchdowns and the difference in the end was Manchester slotting a winning field goal. the final score was 16-14.

Last season the two games between East Kilbride and Edinburgh were very closely fought, one tie and then a win for the Pirates with the last score of the game. Their first meeting this year was at GHA Rugby Club on 6th May and it looks like the close games are becoming a tradition.
This time East Kilbride raced into a 20 point lead with three touchdowns in the first quarter, including two interceptions returned by the defence. The Wolves scored in the second quarter to make the half time score 20-8. Another touchdown for the Pirates on their opening drive of the second half restored their advantage but Edinburgh were fighting back hard. They forced over their fouth touchdown with about two minutes left which tied the scores, then the extra point gave them a 28-27 advantage which the Pirates couldn’t overcome.
So it was that the Wolves had famously broken the Pirates unbeaten streak against all Scottish teams which stretched back almost almost 22 years. In the Premier Division the Wolves have now won their first two while the Pirates have lost theirs.

Newly promoted Glasgow Tigers made their debut on Division 1 North on 29th April at Nethercraigs. They faced a daunting task as the visitors were a Yorkshire Rams team who, after one win, have already been declared as favourites to win the division.
The Rams started strongly and scored a touchdown on their first drive, They didn’t dominate however and by halftime they’d only added a safety which made the score 10-0. The second half was just as close as the first. Neither team managed to add any points and Yorkshire were pleased to hold on to win.

East Kilbride Pirates started BAFA Premier Division their season on 22nd April at their new home, GHA Rugby Club in Giffnock. There was a good crowd filling the stand but they were to be disappointed by the result. Sheffield Giants took advantage of a slow start for EKP and won by a comfortable 22-0.

15th April was the start  date of the British American Football season and I made my way to Wishaw for the first Scottish game, a Division 2 clash between the Blackhawks and Hunters.
There was some good football on show and, typically for the first game of a season, some not quite so good football. The game was close though as the Blackhawks only just held on to their two touchdown half time lead to win by 13-12.

Thanks to the snow which blanketed the country, this BUCS Premier Division quarter final play off game was played on 11th March, a week later than originally scheduled.
For the Stirling the  start of the game was completely unlike their meeting with Durham Saints. This time it was the Clansnmen who made the fast start with three touchdowns in the first quarter. Swansea got back into the game in the second quarter as they pulled the half time score back to 27-14. They couldn’t keep the recovery going after half time though. Stirling eased to the win by 40-14 and the hope of holding on to last years championship is still alive.

25th February was the last Sunday of the BUCS American football regular season and I was at Stirling University to see the Clansmen, the reigning champions, take on the hot team of the Premier Division, Durham University Saints.

Right from the start the visitors were in dominating mood as two early touchdowns set up a 24-0 halftime lead. By the end the score was 30-0 and the Saints had completed a perfect 8 and 0 season. Both teams will have home play-off matches next weekend.

Sunday 4th February was Superbowl day and Napier Knights, as always, made their BUCS league game a big event and attracted a healthy crowd to Meggetland. The opposition this year came from Glasgow University, making it a tasty fixture as both teams were chasing the Division 1 North title.

The game was close with Glasgow holding a narrow 6-3 lead deep into the fourth quarter. Then a flurry of action in the last couple of minutes saw the teams exchange touchdowns, the final score was 14-9 to the Tigers.

The university football season has come round again and Scotland has two teams in BUCS Division 1 this year. The two met on 12th November as the newly promoted Napier Knights came to Garscube.

The game started in a promising fashion. Glasgow scored after a strong opening drive only for Napier to run back the following kick off for their own touchdown. As the game went on the Tigers’ experience showed though. They led 28-6 at half time and, with a number of back-up players in for the second half, went on to win 35-12.
