CALA v Edinburgh Uni

The Scottish Indoor Hockey leagues have reached their festive break. In Division 1 two days of matches have been played, and the top of both tables shows a change from the norm of recent years.

The ususal teams vying for first in Men’s Division 1, Inverleith and Grove Menzieshill, find themselves in second and third places. Kelburne are finally taking the indoor competition seriously and they’re holding stop spot, the only unbeaten side after five games played.

Edinburgh University’s women have been missing from the indoor competition in recent years but they’re now leading the table, one point ahead of the reigning champions, Dundee Wanderers.

I have photos from one day of each competition:

After the incredibly exciting finish in this fixture last season it was probably too much to expect the same again from this BUCS Premier Division game. After the first quarter though, with the score at 14-14, anything looked possible.
We didn’t get the close finish again, but what we saw was a very good Stirling team which couldn’t quite keep up with the top class passing attack of the Durham side. The Saints built a lead in the second quarter and went on to win by 41-28.
Durham are sitting on top of the BUCS Premier North division with three wins out of three. Stirling have now lost two out of three games and have a lot of work to do if they are to qualify for play-off football.
