The final acts of Hockey’s club season were played out on Sunday 17th as the Grand Finals were played, the prize being the first place in next year’s European competition.

The ladies final was a repeat of the Cup Final two weeks earlier, This time however it was Grove Menzieshill who came out on top, the only goal of the game saw them finally get one over on league and cup winners Edinburgh University.

Grove Menzieshill men had the chance to make it a double for their club and deny Kelburne their cup/league/championship treble. When they levelled the game at 2-2 after being two goals down at half time it looked on, however Kelburne found a late winner and they can now look go on to their coming Eurohockey Clup Trophy tournament on a winning streak.

Over the weekend there were play-off games for the last places in next years Division 1 too. On the women’s side Erskine Stewarts Melville found themselves in a strong position after winning the first game 5-2 over Grange. By half time in leg two Grange were back in it with a 2-0 lead but ESM were strong enough to hold on, 7-5 was the final winning aggregate.
Hillhead Men lost the first leg of their play-off by 2-1 to Inverleith but managed to level the tie with a 1-0 scoreline in the second leg. They completed the come back by winning the shoot out and retain their first division place.

The British American Football season’s finally here. The opening weekend featured a meeting of two of the top three from last year’s Premier North Division as East Kilbride Pirates hosted Lancashire Wolverines at Hamilton Rugby Club on 10th April.

The game was very close with the two defences on top. It took until late in the first half for the Pirates to open the scoring with a field goal and it wasn’t until the last play of the third quarter that we had the first touchdown. Even then it was the Pirates defence which scored through an interception return. East Kilbride managed to add a further touchdown and field goal during the last quarter to finish with a 20-0 win which doesn’t reflect how close the game was.

Both teams have the other team from last year’s top three, Tamworth Phoenix, as their next fixture. The Pirates game will be at Hamilton on 1st May.

The Women’s finals on Sunday started with yet another Edinburgh University team, the 4ths, facing East Kilbride in the District Plate Final. EK were the stronger side but they managed to lose a two goal lead and it needed a shoot out for them to take the win. Orkney scored an early goal against Clydesdale Western IV in the District Cup Final but couldn’t hold on as the Glasgow team came through to win comfortably.
