Stirling Clansmen v Sheffield Hallam Warriors
Stirling Clansmen maintained their unbeaten record in the BUCS Premier Division with a solid performance against the Warriors.

The Clansmen started quickly, scoring on a spectacular pass play on their first drive. Just to prove that it wasn’t to be a one sided game, Sheffield then went down the field and ran in a touchdown of their own. From there on Stirling had the edge and went on to win by 41-12. The scoreline makes the game sound more one sided than it actually was.

Next up for Stirling is a trip to Durham for the return match of the thriller of last week.

Stirling Clansmen v Durham Saints
British Universities champions Stirling Clansmen pulled off an amazing comeback win on Sunday 15th against their big rivals from Durham.

The comeback came after half time from a position of 22-0 down. Stirling fought back to 22 all and then scored another touchdown to lead by six, but they missed the extra point. The Clansmen then put up a great goal line stand, stopping the Saints on four downs, but then fumbled inside their own five. Durham forced an equalising touchdown but then, not having a kicker, they attempted a two point conversion. This pass was not only intercepted, the Stirling player ran the ball all the way to the opposite goal for the winning two point score. Final score: Stirling 30 Durham 28.

It was getting dark and wet by the time the final game came round. It was also in Women’s Division 1 and featured GHK playing the reigning champions Edinburgh University. The Edinburgh girls were clearly the better team and were easy winners by 11-1.

The Universities American Football league has season has started and I travelled through to Edinburgh on Sunday 8th in cold wet and windy conditions to see the newly formed Heriot Watt team take on Napier Knights at Sighthill.

Heriot Watt are getting a lot of coaching support from Edinburgh Wolves, and they had a loan of their jerseys too. They competed well after Napier established a 7-0 lead early in the game and their defence forced a touchdown in the final quarter. They couldn’t force over the two point conversion though and the Knights held on to win 7-6.

Scotland hosted a three match test series at Glasgow Green over 2nd – 4th November. The visitors were Ireland who after a very successful 2015 are ranked 15th in the world. Scotland are 17th. The games featured a few players on each side winning there first caps.

Ireland scored on their first attack of the first game on Monday. Scotland equalised through Becky Merchant before half time and there was no more scoring through a well fought second half.

In Tuesday’s second game Ireland were the early leaders again. This time Scotland put up a stronger performance in the second half and came through to win 2-1 with goals by Fiona Bruce and Katie Robertson.

Ireland scored the opening goal again in game three on Wednesday, though this time it took them about 15 minutes this time. The Scots couldn’t force there way back into this one and a second goal late in the game sealed the win for Ireland and a share of the series.
