The top two teams in the Scottish League Division 1 had thrilling home games at Glasgow Green on 22nd February.

First up were Hillhead, still in second place after their early season winning run, facing AAM Gordonians who are fighting for safety from relegation. Gordonians were well on top early and well worth a two goal halftime lead. Hillhead came back in the second half, though they were probably lucky to finish with a 3-2 win.

League leaders Kelburne faced a Grange team who are fighting their way back into the top four. This was a another close game. Kelburne held onto a narrow single goal lead from the first half until late in the game when Grange equalized from the penalty spit.

The University American Football season is well through now, with just one week until the play-off positions are finalised. There has been little doubt which team would win the Scottish Division, the University of Stirling team have been dominant as in previous years, winning all of their games without much trouble. Even the Tigers, who have been the second best team, can’t compete and this was reflected in the 75-0 win for Stirling at Garscube on 16th February.

Stirling are Scottish champions with one game left and will go to the Championship Playoffs. Glasgow’s season isn’t over as they should have a place in the Challenge Trophy Playoffs.

The Predators Celebrate
Superbowl day is traditionally for local derbies in our University Football leagues. The Napier Knights v Edinburgh Predators game was held at Meggetland for the third year, with the usual big crowd filling the stand.

The defences were on top for much of this one. The Predators scored the games only touchdown in the second quarter when a turnover left them with a short drive, then they added a safety in the fourth quarter. Napier were unable to score despite having a strong running game, leaving the final score 9-0 to Edinburgh.
